Dry pendent sprinklers are typically installed in food process plants and box-in-box freezers where temperatures are below 40 degrees F. Supplied from a wet pipe system in an adjacent heated area, the dry pendent sprinkler holds the water back while extending into a cold space. Although there are several other methods for installing sprinkler systems in areas subject to freezing, dry sprinklers allow a wet pipe system to be installed while also protecting ancillary areas that might be subject to freezing temperatures.
